That is because they are less likely to experience events fueled and exacerbated by climate change, such as

Far from coasts, cities like Rochester, Buffalo and Duluth don’t face hurricanes or storm surges. At the same time, they are connected to large lakes, giving them anand helping insulate against drought impacts.

Still, while anecdotes abound of people who are moving to such cities for climate reasons, there isn’t yet evidence of a large demographic shift.

“There hasn’t been a clear signal that people are leaving to climate (friendly) regions, or regions with an abundant water resource,” said Alex de Sherbinin, director and senior researcher at the Center for Integrated Earth System Information at Columbia University.“I am thrilled that our graduates and their families will experience the optimism and insight of the world-renowned Kermit the Frog at such a meaningful time in their lives,” university President Darryll J. Pines said in a statement.
