Highland Council says construction of Skye's Portree Link Road could start in May next year.The road has been proposed to ease congestion in Portree town centre and open up land for new housing developments.There has been a need for the road for a number of years and it has been part of a local development plan since 2019.

In a report to councillors, officials said the route was expected to cost £1.6m and take 25 weeks to build.The local authority had previously hoped the road could be constructed in 2022.

It would link the A87 and A855, which are two key routes in north Skye.
